Kava 101
The Heart & Ritual of DaHonu
Welcome to Kava, the DaHonu Way

Kava isn’t just a drink. It’s a gathering, a pause, and a bridge from tradition to today. Wherever you’re joining us, you’re stepping into a circle that has been forming across Polynesia for generations. At DaHonu, we invite you to slow down, sip, and feel the aloha.
What Is Kava, Really?
Kava comes from the root of the kava (a sacred root plant, Piper methysticum, native to the South Pacific, used for centuries in ceremony and gathering) plant—a staple across the islands. Traditionally, it’s pounded, mixed with water, and shared from the tanoa (the traditional wooden bowl used to prepare and serve kava at gatherings). But kava is more than a recipe. For my family, it was the reason we gathered, listened, and healed together. — Tuni Rafaele, Founder
How Kava Makes You Feel
Kava’s magic comes from kavalactones (the natural compounds in kava root that help you feel calm, clear, and at ease). They gently quiet the mind and invite calm. Sip by sip, you’ll notice the stress melt away, clarity return, and a subtle glow that feels like belonging. DaHonu never leaves you foggy or out of control. Instead, you feel present and at ease.
Why DaHonu’s Kava Is Different
DaHonu is Polynesian-owned and grounded in kuleana (sacred responsibility; our duty to care for people and culture). We partner directly with island farmers to bring real kava into every can. We use advanced nano-extraction (a modern process that breaks kava down into smaller particles for faster, smoother effects). This turns tradition into a fast-acting, modern ritual you can trust for calm and connection, anytime, anywhere.
Zero sugar. Zero alcohol. All aloha.
